Etsuko Nakayama

We're very excited to welcome metal clay artist Etsuko Nakayama back to the UK!

Etsuko Nakayama is a Certified instructor of Art Clay Club, Japan. She is the course researcher and teacher at the Art Clay Headquarters Studio, and possibly one of the top Art Clay artists in the world - you can rest assured she knows her metal clay, and she knows how to teach it too!

Etsuko has a knack for creating magical jewellery, inspired by nature, stylised and immortalised in delicate but strong and powerful designs. Her syringe work is exquisite and syringe decorations and additions of wire, gold foil, and resin, add impact and bring her silver to life.

Her masterclasses at YCMI 2018, 2020, and Sinter 2024 were incredibly popular and filled fast. She brings many unique techniques and  unusual ways of working with the clay.

Etsuko's work is highly acclaimed, securing numerous awards, including the Semi Grand-Prix at the Silver Accessories Contest in Japan for four consecutive years from 2003 to 2006. Since the 18th Contest in 2023, she has been serving as a judge. Additionally, she earned accolades at the 7th and 9th Pearl Jewellery Design Contest in Japan.

Etsuko's jewellery has been exhibited at ECLAT DE MODE, Paris, France, International Garment & Textile Fair, Dalian, China, and between 2017-2019 Etsuko has been an invited Artist at the Master Camp, Shanghai Business School, Shanghai, China.

Besides teaching at conferences in the UK, she is a prolific teacher and has traveled to teach masterclasses in Netherlands, Germany, Taiwan, and Korea.
