The Art of Interconnected Links – Your Choice of Style

Learn the art of chain making and create a stunning handcrafted silver bracelet in this two-day workshop. Whether you prefer a delicate, lightweight design using Art Clay 950 or want to add extra sparkle with fireable stone settings in fine silver (999) - this class lets you choose your style.

Perfect for metalsmiths who want to expand beyond wire and casting, this workshop will show you how to create strong, interlocking links with precision, giving you the skills to craft beautifully refined chains.

What You’ll Learn:

  • New die-cut tool method – faster, simpler, and even better results!

  • Smart techniques for working wet, semi-dry, and dry clay

  • Speed-linking method for clean, finely detailed silver clay chains

  • Handling and joining thin links in greenware

  • Open links and jump rings for cold connections

  • Suspension setting large fireable stones (999 version only)

  • Secure toggles and clasps

  • Secrets of successful firing

  • How to avoid fuming and clouding on fired CZs

Your Project

You’ll design and construct a fully articulated bracelet featuring your choice of:

  • Sleek, minimalist chain links in Art Clay 950 for a lightweight and durable design that won’t overpower delicate work.

  • A fine silver (999) version with added sparkle from fireable stone settings for a bold and elegant look.

If you choose the stone-set version, you’ll learn how to suspension-set colourful fireable stones for a dazzling finish. You will get a selection to use - and more will be available for purchase for future making. You can also bring your own 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm or 12mm round or oval stones (max size 10x14mm). Up to three stones can be set, though beginners may be best to start with just one.

Instructor Insight – Wanaree’s Thoughts on Chain Making

"Chain making has been an obsession for me for years. The ability to transform an unassuming lump of clay into a complex, interlocking, moving yet solid form is a beautiful metaphor for creativity itself. Over 17 years in the studio, I’ve refined and tested countless techniques to achieve the best possible results—this workshop is the culmination of that experience."

"Metal clay is often underestimated, seen as a substitute for traditional metalsmithing rather than a unique and powerful medium of its own. I invite you to explore its true potential with me, mastering the secrets of refining and joining metal clay links to create something truly special."
